More on Tera...

Tera Van Beilen had no shortage of accomplished athletes to look up to as a young girl growing up in Ontario. Her uncle played in the NHL, her cousin in the CFL and she has many fond memories meeting Canadian Olympic Kayaking legend, Adam Van Koeverden. Tera moved across the country, to Vancouver, to train under world renowned breaststroke specialist coach, Joszef Nagy, and alongside 200 metre breaststroke World Record holder, Annamay Pierse.

Learning to balance her new found training regimen with her studies at UBC was no easy feat, but within one year of the process Tera found herself succeeding. By the spring of her freshman year at UBC, Tera qualified for her first senior national team; the 2012 Canadian Olympic Swim Team. That summer at the Olympic Games, Tera placed 9th in the world after a pressure filled swim off in the 100 metre breaststroke. Tera went on to lead the UBC Varsity team and was voted to be Team Captain, by her fellow teammates. She earned that same influential role, in 2015, on the Canadian Pan Am Games Swim Team that competed in Toronto.

Her leadership skills, and cheerfully positive personality have allowed her to blaze a trail for the next generation of Canadians in swimming. Since retiring, Tera has maintained strong connections to the sport, and the many young successes that are still competing. She loves sharing her experiences and expertise with the next wave of young athletes
